The Agenda
We built the agenda to maximize our time together and to take advantage of the many activities available in the Mason/Dixon region commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Thursday: Golf at the Links at Gettysburg. This is a 0730 start, so golfers will have to be in Gettysburg on Wednesday.
Registration and Reception at the Eisenhower Thursday Evening from 1700-2100 hours.
Friday: Breakfast at the Hotel. We have arranged an all-day bus tour of the Antietam National Battlefield with lunch at the beautiful Bavarian Inn.
Saturday: Breakfast at the Hotel. We have arranged an all-day bus tour of the Gettysburg National Battlefield with lunch at the historic Dobbin House. Saturday night is the Association’s banquet.
Sunday: Breakfast at the Hotel.
There are many activities available in the area. Hershey Park is within an hour’s drive; the Catoctin Apple Festival is a short drive from the Hotel. For the adventurous, there are ghost tours in Gettysburg.

Just as a reminder, September 2012 was the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. The one day battle was the bloodiest day in our Civil War. Gettysburg next year will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the July 1-3, 1863 battle.

Regrettably, no. Just got my leave cancelled last night. Not too happy.
Eric are you going to be able to make the reunion ?
If the Germans couldn't stop them on the beaches, a few DC cops sure as hell weren't going to get it done either.
Just saw on the news,A large group of WW II vets demanded to be let into the WW II memorial in DC. They were let in without incident.
I've given many tours of Gettysburg and know my way around in the dark. There's no problem so long as a local highway transits through the park say for interest Emmitsburg Pike, Baltimore Pike, Highway US 30 (Chambersburg Pike). The problem are the access roads maintained by the NPS that would afford access to places like Devil's Den, Little Round Top,and Wheatfield. Those narrow blacktops are maintained by the NPS and they lock barriers down on them at sundown or in this case closing. Also the Visitor's center with a lot of the displays will be closed. The same goes for Antietam on Friday.
My phone has GPS and Google Earth.
If they close the battlefields down this weekend we will need to find our own way in there, maybe some land navigation tours can be set up by our group, I will bring my compass, hopefully some one coming will know their way around Gettysburg and could lead a patrol for us..
The down side for me is that I'm considered an "essential gov't employee" and even though I have approved leave for the reunion it can be cancelled and be forced in to work. Civil Service can suck despite some of the bennies.
That's the spirit, Mike! Should make my drive from Dulles Airport a little less crowded, too.

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
