The Agenda

We built the agenda to maximize our time together and to take advantage of the many activities available in the Mason/Dixon region commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Thursday: Golf at the Links at Gettysburg. This is a 0730 start, so golfers will have to be in Gettysburg on Wednesday.

Registration and Reception at the Eisenhower Thursday Evening from 1700-2100 hours.

Friday: Breakfast at the Hotel. We have arranged an all-day bus tour of the Antietam National Battlefield with lunch at the beautiful Bavarian Inn.

Saturday: Breakfast at the Hotel. We have arranged an all-day bus tour of the Gettysburg National Battlefield with lunch at the historic Dobbin House. Saturday night is the Association’s banquet.

Sunday: Breakfast at the Hotel.

There are many activities available in the area. Hershey Park  is within an hour’s drive; the Catoctin Apple Festival is a short drive from the Hotel. For the adventurous, there are ghost tours in Gettysburg.

Just as a reminder, September 2012 was the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. The one day battle was the bloodiest day in our Civil War. Gettysburg next year will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the July 1-3, 1863 battle.

historical factoids about the Civil War and the 2d U.S. Cavalry Regiment’s participation.

I guess one of the plus sides to this if the Government shuts down it should clear a little of the Beltway traffic on my drive up Thursday afternoon.

We will find a way to get in Mike.

here's some food for thought for all attending the reunion next week...

Government shutdown equates to National Park Service. This means all Battlefield Parks and visitor Centers are closed. If there is no Government shutdown....National Park service has issued a permit for a KKK Rally near Meade's Headquarters on the battlefield for next Saturday afternoon. Should be interesting....see you all next weekend.

Sounds good to me, Rob. I guess we just missed the KKK recruiting rally at Antietam. Sure would have liked to "influence" their membership.

Watched on the News this morning that the Klan had a permit to have some sort of function in Gettysburg next month.  Does anyone know if this is going to affect our reunion activities in any way.?  The news report did not mention any particular dates other than the the month of October and that it was in Gettysburg.
