Dragoon Base

Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.

Thought I might start a list of flavor experiences I've encountered recently, in the realm of German biers. I've discovered a treasure trove of some 600+ imported biers, and am prepared to squander the family fortune in persuit of the perfect bier.

As this could prove a daunting task, I am starting at the top so momentum will assist me.

My first offering is:
KOSTRIZER SCHWARZBIER, Germany's black lager, brewed by Kostrizer Schwarzbier Brauerei, Bad Kostritz/Thuringen.

Hope you have patience and a steady hand to pour this one, because it's got a helluva head on it. I seem to remember a question on the Army entrance exam's about pouring bier down the side of the glass. This is definitely the bier that requires this technique if you don't want an entire glass of foam. As far as taste....too heavy for my liking. Reminded me of a mouthful of burnt wood.

Ok maybe several if I am not driving..

Dave I am sure you have had Stella Atrois . I really like it. Especially on tap. It is excellent . Spendy! Most good things are!
You get what you pay for.

Joe, I had one Saturday in Williamsburg, Virginia while attending the 2d Cav Assoc reunion, and it was far from the first I've drank. Used to drink them all the time when I went to a particular bar near me here in Tacoma until they quit selling it on tap.

Dave they are so easy to drink and no unpleasant after taste. Of course my kids always tell me " Dad you like everything"!
How was the reunion? I really would like to attend and meet you. My wife likes to travel and she likes fine hotels so I know I would not have to twist her arm. Right now with 1 in college , 1 starting next fall and 2 more starting in 2 years the budget is tight. I know the maximum effective range of an excuse is 0 meters. On the other hand if I do not do it soon I probably never will. I really want to go back to Deuscthland and do a border trace too! Tojours Brother!

The reunion was great, Joe! I almost didn't go but I'm sure glad I did. Just seeing the WW II vets made it worthwhile, but there was so much more.

The next reunion is going to be in Kansas City, Missouri at Harrah's Casino. Maybe we can get more of the Central US and West Coast to show up. This last reunion was the biggest yet. We had about 190 for the banquet!

Dave when is the next reunion? I am thinking that's not more then a 12 hour drive for me. I was stationed at Ft. Riley for 3 years
and drove home a few times for long weekends. Not too a bad of a drive and I could Visit Ft. Riley too! Also maybe you can help me on this? I have a German gentlemen training me on a Grinding machine for work and wanted to show him Camp Gates on google earth. Years back I could just put Camp Gates in the search and it would take me there. Now it does not have it. I believe Marktredwitz was the closest town . Would anyone have the gps coordinates for Gates?

Thanks

Next reunion is in 2019. No date as of yet.

Yes, Marktredwitz was the closest town. I'll see if maybe John Walker has the co-ordinates of the camp. He went there and took videos just before they tore it down.

Need to get some dress blues and a Stetson!

No need for dress blues. A Stetson and sports jacket will work.
