Private Balser Horn, Company K, 2nd Dragoons - Cerro Gordo Mexico, 1847

This is the Certificate of Merit awarded to Private Balser Horn, Company K, 2nd Dragoons for distinguihing himself in the service at the Battle of Cerro Gordo, Mexico on 18 April 1847.

I will have to see if I can get  facts on the significance of how our county got its name"Cerro Gordo",,I still am pretty sure its because of battle in Mexico??? thank goodness for the internet,don't have time to get to the library!!!

Yep,went to the internet and read briefly and it isnamed after the battle in that place in Mexico!!! I feel I be stealin the stage from Private Balser ,,

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
