Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.
I'm trying to replicate a "tankers jacket" complete with the right patches. In the late 70s and early 80s when we qualified our tanks, we received pocket patches based on our scores, i.e. Qualified, Distinguished, or Superior. Any ideas where I might find just the patch? I really don't want to buy Lt Doyle's field jacket off of ebay.

Very close. The bottoms either read :Support, Qualified, Distinguished, or Superior. That tab from 84 is vastly different. I'm looking the "DISTINGUISHED" Subaltern Shoot patch from 1979
I'll keep my eyes open, Max. I looked yesterday and all the 2ACR patches were gone and only 3ACR and 11ACR patches were left. I think there was one '78 SUPPORT patch from 2ACR.
Found some more on eBay but this was as close as I could get.
And this one.
If that's as close as I can get, snag it for me or tell me where I can get it. I was still in the Regiment in '81 and we qualified Distinguished (in '79), so I guess its not a case of "stolen valor".
Here are links to all the 2ACR qualification patches I found.
1981 Subaltern Shoot Qualified
3/2ACR Gunnery with Qualified 77 and Platoon Eval 77 tabs
2/2ACR with ARTEP and SUPPORT tabs
There are a crap-load from 3ACR and 11ACR too. Lots more than 2ACR.
I had been trying to remember the name of the Hoenfels FTXs we had - Dueler's Challenge. Went on 2 of them, some of the best training I ever got.
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
