Dragoon Base

Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.

Anyone know the ins & outs of paying a visit to the unit? I'll be in Bavaria this October with my wife and oldest son (who is a LT in the Navy)and will be visiting old haunts in Bamberg, Coburg and Hof. Would like to see what the Cav works with now if possible.

Eric, I am pretty sure you will need a sponsor to get into Rose barracks, when we went over in 2011 we needed some one to get us on base, some of the other guys may have some information. Ryan Meyer the curator of the museum may be able to help some. Good luck and have fun. I was in Amberg from 78 to 80 the place is not the same, it is some kind of public housing now. But the bier is still great in  downtown Amberg.

Thanks for the info!

Yes Eric, I would contact Ryan Meyer at the museum and see what he says.

I'll send him a message to make sure it is OK to pass on his contact info.

Will be contacting Ryan shortly; still have 6 months to go before my trip.

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
