Wayne,
I too served with James Van Patten, John Nonemaker in the 87 Chem Company. I arrived just prior to deployment to the unit I was a 63y10 when I arrived. Do you know Sgt Kuneman or Sgt Bascaurrea not sure of the spelling on there last names. Nice to have found this web site. How are things going and have you herd from any others in the company who deployed. The last I herd of Van Patten he was Sargent Major at the training center in Graf. Many years ago.
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
