Dragoon Base

Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.

I stumbled on this while poking about tonight.

Also this:

That's the former D Company/How Battery barracks on the right.

I read that Google Street View has been shot for Germany but not yet published. That should give us an even better way to see how much things have changed.

I believe the first picture is one of the old quarters in the family housing area. All the troop barracks were destroyed years ago and different buildings built on their spots. the aerial picture seems to bear this out, since they are located near the old fence line.

No, D Company and How Battery got a new building sometime in the late '70 or early 80s. It is the only one of barracks from my time (83-85) that still seems to be up. It was on the south end of the post, east of the NCO club just a short ways from the main gate. This is my last view of it in 1985 when I left.

I was in Delta 80-82 this building was built in 81, we moved in the spring or summer of 81. my room was on the bottom floor to left of the last window on the bottom right
C Troop Barracks were renewed in 1968, The troop slept in the airport hangar. Oh hell there were no facilities and we lept in the couch
I was at the Rock in 1999 and the only barracks left then from my time( 55-58) where B company and C Company and a guy living there told us they were to come down soon after we were there. When I got my computer in 2001 I found Bindlacher Berg site and the two barracks were gone and new buildings in ther e place.
dam fine phots!
My wife and I went back in 2007 for Oktoberfest and also visited the rock. It had changed a lot since we left in '86 but some things were the same as ever. Bratwurst on the streets of Bayreuth and Maisel bier were still my favorite. We met up with Dieter Kaiser from the bank on post and Dr. Bhatia form the clinic. Do you remember him with his turban and beard? Good people and good times.
Wow, my former barracks is now a nursing home? I was in D Co from 88-91. Lots of good times there. Thanks for posting these pictures as I had always wondered what happened to our post.
I was there just there in 2009 and the maintenance base are a rubber recycling , a nursing home at the HQ building and all barracks are gone except the first set of buildings near main entrance. It looked very odd to me. they kept the bowling Alley open and used today. I did alot of walking around and just looking, remembering the good times there.

I was at the rock between 76- 79, the first pic looks like part of the family housing area, all the barracks were lined up from the gate with HHT being the last before the PX and stuff, I was in HHT

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
