I was in the 84th Engineers in Nuremberg and Merrill Barracks from 1981-1983. We did a lot and saw a lot. My friend Woody Thompson taught the pizza guy across the street from the main gate how to make cheese crust pizza. We attended every fest down the street and we would go to the park and buy beer at the corner gas station on the way. and spend all day and many times a good part of the night there.
I would like to find someone that has a picture of the motto inside the 84th Engineers door that talked about us being Sappers. I don't recall much of it any longer but I do know it said., "We don't build! We DESTROY!"
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
