Welcome To Fiddler's Green

Halfway down the trail to Hell
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead Troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen,
And this eternal resting place is
known as Fiddler's Green
Marching past straight through to Hell
The Infantry are seen
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marines,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green
Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene,
No Trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green
And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a sabre keen,
Or on roaring charge of fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean.
And the hostiles come to get your scalp
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddler's Green.

Comment by Harry Warner on September 4, 2016 at 12:01pm: James Richard Vaught, Sr., better known as Jim, age 70 of Pasadena, Texas passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at Kindred Hospital Bay Area, Pasadena, Texas. James was born on September 4, 1944 in Havre De Grace, Maryland and was a resident of Pasadena for 21 years. He was a member of New Life Worship Center in Alvin, Texas. James served in the United States Army in radio communications on the Czechoslovakian border in Germany and during the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ethel Vaught.

James is survived by his wife, Freida Vaught, daughters, Darlene Barringer, Janice Glenn, Miram Morton and husband, Wesley, sons, James Vaught, Jr. and wife, Della, Trey Smith and wife, Megan, brother, Larry Vaught and wife, Rita and niece, Angela and Melissa, 9 grandchildren, Michael, Natalie, Nicholas, Hunter, Garrett, Colton, Kenzi, Ava and Ripley, special cousins Linda and Larry Norsworthy and Frank and Betty Robertson and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Scott Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. A good friend, a brother and a good Dragoon. I will miss him and I wish peace to his bride, she is the ultimate Cavalry wife. Such good people, please toast them with me. Tojours prêt!
