Yeah Gene, but nobody would believe half the stuff. I would have to publish it as fiction.

Dave, your story reminds of the movie "Stripes"! You need to get a book goin' Brother. You are a legend that should sit down and write all the crazy stuff you survived back in the Day! That you are still kickin' is a marvel to me.

Well Mark, here's how that circus went. I'll try to keep it short

I had a tanker MOS (11E) out of AIT, and picked up 11E10R8 in advanced AIT, but they were going to split my buddy and I up so we volunteered for the MP's. 4 weeks in Kaiserslautern and we were MP's. Got stationed in Stuttgart with 385MP for awhile and then I got sent TDY to Neu Ulm to help beef up the tiny unit there during some race riots at a Pershing unit there. My buddy stayed in Stuttgart and became the colonel's driver.

Neu Ulm was great but a bunch of us got in some trouble and got kicked out of the MP's. After a few weeks hard labor in Heilbronn at Company HQ, the seven of us were scattered all over Germany. I ended up in Hanau with 3/59ADA, some crazy MOS, and the biggest heroin junkie in USAREUR for a roommate. The MOS got straightened out and they decided since I had security training, they would make me a gate guard on some remote mountain top missile site.

In the mean time the company clerk, Perry Watkins (Google the name), decides he's in love with me. I went AWOL and set up a tent in an open field behind the BOQ about a mile from my old MP station in Neu Ulm. I stayed there for three weeks, shopping at the PX and having MP patrols and taxi drivers bring me supplies.

Ran out of money and got tired of that tent so I walked down to the MP station and turned myself in. Spent the night in the MP barracks partying with some old friends, and the next day went back to 3/59. Wasn't long before I had orders for the border and 2ACR.

Dave that was how it was 'spoused to go for me too, but then Frogfoots started shooting up helicopters and i got the rare experience having my orders change in flight and Landing in a June snow storm - speaking of which Arkansas has a Tornado and winter weather alert overlapping so we either get Thunder Snow or Snownado - not sure - but i gotta go batten down the Lawn Furniture till the Ice gets here to glue it down but latter - what was your weapon system?

Hey Mark, I did just the opposite as you. Went from HHB 3/59ADA (Hanau) to 2ACR.

RC your right. Waiting on parts for 6 mths, getting kudos for 75% readiness rates- the only thing worse was going state side. It was in fact a DIFFERENT ARMY.
