Department of Defense Extends Online Military Exchange Shopping Privileges to Veterans

Press Operations

Release No: NR-010-17
Jan. 13, 2017

The veterans online shopping benefit will be effective this Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
While shopping privileges exclude the purchase of uniforms, alcohol and tobacco products, it includes the Exchange Services’ dynamic online retail environment known so well to service members and their families. This policy change follows careful analysis, coordination and strong public support.

“We are excited to provide these benefits to honorably discharged veterans to recognize their service and welcome them home to their military family,” said Peter Levine, performing the duties for the under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness.

“In addition, this initiative represents a low-risk, low-cost opportunity to help fund Morale, Welfare and Recreation programs in support of service members’ and their families’ quality of life. And it’s just the right thing to do,” Levine added.

The online benefit will also strengthen the exchanges’ online businesses to better serve current patrons. Inclusion of honorably discharged veterans would conservatively double the exchanges’ online presence, thereby improving the experience for all patrons through improved vendor terms, more competitive merchandise assortments, and improved efficiencies, according to DoD officials.
“As a nation, we are grateful for the contributions of our service members. Offering this lifetime online benefit is one small, tangible way the nation can say, ‘Thank you’ to those who served with honor,” Levine said.

Drugs are just like Alcohol, Food etc. . People will abuse anything consumable. Been that way since we started walking the earth and they are going to change it. Well I guess once we are no longer on earth , then it will be gone! Hang tough brother!

I hear you Thomas! They gave out the opioids like candy starting a decade ago and they were abused and are being abused. It is a nation wide epedimc according to the news. Sad fact is they work! The best thing they have for pain! It's politics at! People that do not have chronic pain have no idea what's it like to struggle through a day with it . The good thing is eventually they will! Most everyone does at some point. Another case of a few people ruining it for everyone. What really gets me is a member of your care team telling you that you need to lose weight when they are 50 lbs over or more. They did not want to give them to my Dadwho was terminal from Cancer them because he could get addicted. They graduated from college?

Good afternoon Troopers ... ..

A bit on the cool side, 67 deg. and Rainy. Been raining since 1030hr and it's now 1603hr. Doesn't look like we will get our afternoon/evening walk today.

Spent the 4th of July Holiday with my daughter, here in MA and her family. Grilled some Kebabs for dinner and walked down to the nearby Pond to watch some fireworks. All in all a good day.

Insurance company finally paid on the Awning claim and we have ordered a new manual awning for the camper. Scheduled to have it installed at the end of July.

This is my MA family. The girl in the middle (dark slacks) is an Exchange Student that was staying with them this school year.

Hope all are doing well, enjoy the day, take care.
