Frank, nice pictures. I see you are starting your winter migration. Gonna have to paint some feathers on your trailer to look like a Palm Warbler, but your going to have to extent your range to upper Manitoba and Ontario.

Yes, eventually waking up is always a good thing no matter how bad of shape you are in at the time.

That troop carrier was the sorriest vehicle that I had anything to do with in my time in the U.S. Army. We had a 4.2 mortar mounted in one. It had two V-8 continental engines, one on each side. When we went out the main gate at Bindlach a mechanic went with us. Some time we didn't get a mile out of the gate before they broke down.

On the right side we had about fifty 4.2 mortar rounds mounted in a rack stacked on their ends. Just behind that spec. four dismounting.

We didn't have heaters in my time, and many a time we would remove those panels that covered the engines for the heat they gave off. Might have been dumb but I use to sleep on those mortar rounds with the panel off . Max distance from engine maybe a foot. It is a wonder any of us ever survived the things we did. I hated that track, sure was happy when we got new ones.

P.S. That's the piece of crap that I floated across a river crossing, believe that was the only time I was ever really concerned with any of the training we did in the 2nd A/C.

Ronny, I thought that movie was so cool when I was a kid. 3ACR and 2ACR traded places from 1955-58. 2ACR went to Ft. Meade and 3ACR went to the border.

This is a 2ACR APC at Ft. Meade 1957. Note that it has 2d Army instead of 7th Army on the left side numbers.

Interesting facts:

Actress Patricia Neal poses with soldiers during the 1950 filming of the science-fiction film classic "The Day The Earth Stood Still".  Some of the military scenes in the movie were filmed at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland.  The 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment supplied the vehicles, equipment, and soldiers for the movie segments depicting Army operations.  THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
