You would have to fill out a request for his records from the National Archives, Harold. I'm taking off for a day in the woods with my brother but I can point you in the right direction when I get home.

Dave, he had to be proud of the 2nd ACR for someone to put it on his gravestone

Dave, we know he was in the 2nd at least from 58 - 60

and you said on his headstone was written 2nd ACR HQ Co.

Isn't there a way?

Harold, Sam's face looks familiar but too many years have passed !

I don't have his military records, Harold. All I could find was his headstone and a 1940 census with family info. He was 3 years old at the time.

Dave, for over 50 years I knew Sam committed suicide.  I spoke with business associates that was from that part of Kentucky and found out about the suicide.

I accepted it as a matter of fact.

When you told me you found; not only his history, but, you found his grave site,

which caused me a sleepless night.  Sam Alves was a very good soldier with never a complaint on him.  When I came back to the states, he knew what I had unfinished and made sure all was taken care of for me.

I hope you have his Military records and can put him in our books of the 2nd ACR.  He absolutely deserves to be remembered.

Something real bad must have happened for him to do this.  I don't ever remember him to be a depressed soldier
