Wayne, After basic I  went to Radio School.  I came in 5th of my class and the first 5 had their choice of Stateside, Asia, (JAPQN<KOREA< ETC>>) or Germany. I chose Germany and went to FT. MEADE to the 2nd ACR.  They assigned me to HQ Co. and I went on advance party to Nuremberg.

That I landed on Dec 11 1957 and stayed till March of 59.  3 days in FT. DIX and was released to active reserve.

The reserves did not use my talents in communications, but got my 3rd stripe at the first weekend.

That picture is from New Years Eve 1958 - 59 in Paris France.

I don't remember the two guys I went with, one was Reynolds the other we called Smitty, but we had a ball.

HAROLD, I had some one trying to call my home, I traced the number down and the number was out of New York City and was a number that had many complaints filed on it.  Some jokers will try to get away with everything any more.  one had called a cousin in Ohio trying to obtain money in my name.  I wish I could catch one like that they would spend a little time, I would see to that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIM, MAY YOU HAVE MANY MORE.  Looks  like we continue to climb that old ladder.  I wanted to buy some more insurance on me for the wife, there cost for insurance on me is sky high, I am just going to make deposit into my savings, better than filling the pockets of the insurance company.

HAROLD,  I was looking at your photograph, I tried to enlarge it.  I thought the brass looked like crossed cannons on your left lapel, were you in a artillery unit at one time.  I was in the artillery in 1949 in Sonthofen Germany in the old Constabulary, Circle C Cowboy's they called us.  I was a forward observer, my unit had just won the trophy for the best Artillery unit in Germany.

You would have to fill out a request for his records from the National Archives, Harold. I'm taking off for a day in the woods with my brother but I can point you in the right direction when I get home.

Dave, he had to be proud of the 2nd ACR for someone to put it on his gravestone

Dave, we know he was in the 2nd at least from 58 - 60

and you said on his headstone was written 2nd ACR HQ Co.

Isn't there a way?

Harold, Sam's face looks familiar but too many years have passed !

I don't have his military records, Harold. All I could find was his headstone and a 1940 census with family info. He was 3 years old at the time.
