I know times have changed, but was sad to hear that Pond barracks was no longer. Those two years there changed my life. For good and bad.

I can not beleive the size of Amberg since I departed from there in 1964, here it has been 44 years since I left there. It was a little town when I departed from there. I was looking at a satellite photo last night and it is a monster of a town. I pulled off a photo of Pond barracks, unless some one has seen it lately you would not know it. I am going to up load a copy of the Pond Barracks area for all to see. I'll make a album of Amberg Post.

I saw a recent picture of the post area, there was a restaurant where the old mess hall was, and the rest were apartments, and looked very nice.

Iwas there when we closed down the camp, but had left to Ft Bliss ehen they closed down the barracks. It was used for refugees then turned into apartments.

When was the Camp closed down, I heard in 92? Tommy were you there when they turned Pond Barracks back over to the German Government. I have been told that after we departed that it was used as refuge for displaced people an that they tore it all to pieces.

What period did you serve in Amberg? I served 59-61 and 62-64. I was a member of I troop, served in the same squad and pltoon each time.

2d DRAGOONS

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
