"Gary, I can't remember the Sheridan that you have in your photo album....the one that is destroyed. Would that be the one that was hit at Graf on April first about 1977? I remember a Sheridan getting hit on the range on April first....around…"

Funny or Not So Funny Things That Happened At Border Camps

I remember some unusual things that happened to me at the border camps. Most of the time I was at Camp May. We had had a snowball fight early one day and I fell down a hill and damaged some ligaments in my knee. I went to see the medic at Camp May and he ordered bed rest. Little did he or I know the severity of the damage. About 2300 hours that night we had a camp alert. We all fell out and stood in formation. The MP's were looking for injured personell. It seems that someone from the camp had…See More

Tell us a little about your cav days.
I was a gunner on L 27. Too many good times to go into but if you were there in the 70's you know what I mean. All I can say is that we are lucky to be alive. I stay in touch with George Vesel all the time.
Tell us a little about you now.
Married to my lovely wife Lisa, a school administrator, 3 kids, 3 grandkids and two dogs named Zig and Zag. I am an instructor at Albany Technical College in Albany, Ga. Have been for the last 20 years. I live in Leesburg, Ga. Like to boat and camp. Not the kind of camping we did in Sheridans but the kind where there are comforts like microwaves, showers and comfy beds.

Dog, If the M551s could talk hmmmm... I guess its been 30 years now so its safe now. when you called last week I think was in shock. It was good to speak to you. I look back on those days and relize they are still alive in my mind, the friends that you make in those situations are forever. I often think about our boys fighting for freedom and giving all they have for you and I.It makes me proud to know that we were and still are a part of that great tradition. thanks for letting me know about this site, I never would have known. My life can be busy so I can't be on every night but will make a real effort to stay in touch.
