"My story isn't like yours Bobby, I've know Bobby when I was with fox troop 2/2 1977-79. After leaving cav county I went to ft Carson 1979-80 than back to Germany 1980-83 in Schweinfurt when we received the m1. I was a Ctr operator when I…"
"It sure sounds like they put you out to pasture Bob, You would think the Army would want to retrain its NCO's to learn new technology's but we all know they did not always do what seemed to be the right thing to do at the time."
If you're not bothered by grease under your fingernails and the smell of diesel in your clothes, this is the place to bitch about all those busted, frozen knuckles you got trying to get vehicles on line for Graf, Reforger, the border, or any number of "dire emergencies" the border troops faced on a daily basis.Ever have that one jerk-off in the outfit that broke everything he touched? Tell him about it here. Maybe he'll show up one day and read it.Have that one special friend or mentor in the…See More
I posted this on facebook before..Was I put out to pasture when the M1 arrived..?Something I have been asking myself for over 30 years.. I started in the Cav, back when Sheridans were our main vehicle. As a tank mechanic.. I worked in a motor pool with a great group of mechanics.. SFC "Motor Hog" Rhodes.. Jimmy Mursell (RIP brother) and a badass from Philly named Steve Rambo. We worked great together and many a times I saw the sun set on us while fixing tanks at Graf and rise again the next…See More

I'm sure we all have about the same stories to tell.. the famous fights at Graf.. (the place is probably still off limits). The long, cold days and nights on the range and the partys at Hof, and Coburg.
Tell us a little about you now.
After the Cav.. I had another 3 year tour in Germany and a couple of tours with the 101st in Kentucky and college after that. Upon graduating, I worked as a teacher in a middle school. In 1989 I joined the Police Department.
No Bob, not tomorrow. Although I belong to the "waiting list" I WAS able to get two tickets for both games. Problem is my wife who is a nurse works every other weekend and this weekend, when she is off, has to take my step son back to school. I would liked to go this weekend but I can't make it happen - I was entitled to two tickets and there is three of us - me and two young boys (9 and 11). It should be a good game - enjoy.
Hi Bob, nice to hear from you and hope that the cold weather is not to bad up there. Thank you for remembering by Birthday and for you wishes. Please keep in touch and God Bless. Here is my regular e-mail: email@example.com
Yes, he was a very good DS and a better friend. If you take a look thru your BCT Photo Album, my own Plt. Sgt. SFC Fred Blue retired as a 1SG back on or about 1987 he live now in Colorado, his other assistance SSG Manuel Ankrom he retired as a MSG and live here in Newport News VA, SSG Larry French was kick out of the service as a 1SG for trainee abuse, a real shame because he was a fine DI and a Viet Nam Vet., our Supply Sgt. then SSG Chaves retired about 6 years ago as a CW4, I lost contact with all the others and never seen them again. From A-18-4 I went to A-1-1 and became the Tng. NCO and Senior Track Commander, the I became the X-M1 OTT-3 Tank Program Logistics NCOIC, then Germany 2nd ACR.
Bob, this is Rafael Pabon again, just a sad note and for your information. SSG (Ret) Walter Young who was a DI with Brown and Collier during your BCT time passed away sometime around October 2009 due to complications from Diabetes. Walter was a fine DI and a better friend to me and SFC Fredrick Blue. I tought you should know. You stay safe out there. ///Rafael
