Tell us a little about your cav days.
I was the "Colonel's Clerk," serving under Colonels Hudachek and Page. To get that assignment, I had to interview, in turn, with CSM Hedges, LTC Zipp and finally COL Hudachek himself. I was a 19-year-old and fresh out of BCT/AIT, where first sergeants and lieutenants were gods! During my interview with COL Hudachek, he determined, to the shock of both of us, that my uncle in Mechanicsville, Iowa, had taught the Colonel's father how to fly an airplane decades before. I guess that bit of coincidence guaranteed me the Colonel's Clerk job!
Tell us a little about you now.
I'm the manager of business intelligence for an international magazine fulfillment and data management company. This year (2019) marked my 37th anniversary with them! I like to tell people that I've been with the company since President Reagan's first term!

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
