Tell us a little about your cav days.
If I told you, I'd have to kill you. You wouldn't believe me anyway.
Tell us a little about you now.
Still the same crazy bastard I was back then, just a lot slower and a little meaner.
Do you have a web site?
Phone number (Optional).
Cell: (253) 327-4062
Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.
Lester Paul (found deceased), Harry Watt (found), Paul Garcia (found deceased), Dan "Mac" MacDonald (found deceased), Marty Banning (found here), William "Tiny" Hayden (found here), Marty Buss and the rest of the party room at the end of the hall.

1LT Andy Stilley (found in Texas but lost again), 1SG Jack Miller (found here), CPT (Ret. COL) Tom Molino (found here), SSG Ken Webb, SGT Jim Cain (found here), SSG Rick "Butch" Cassidy (found here), SGT Brian Conlon (found here), SGT Donley French and SGT Dennis French (twins), Dennis Fullerton, Jerome Hess (found here), Scott Hippe (found here), SGT Larry Kissel (found here), PVT Mike Paige, SP/4 Brian Parten (found here), SGT Bob Ryan (found here), SGT Rick Reames (found here), SP/4 Cary Ley (found here), LT Jim Mitchell (found here)...I know there are several more I missed and more that are already here, but the mind gets foggy.

This was probably the last thing SSG Brow saw before I hit him with a flying tackle and put out his flames just past the first hour of July 25, 1974.  I think I must have still had this same expression as I ran away from C15 just seconds before it blew up.

Actually Dave, Camp Reed and Camp May belonged to the 3rd Armored Cav when I was there.  So 2nd AC must have expanded its border sector footprint sometime after I left in December 1966.

Hi Dave, I was assigned to L Troop and ironically they were at Camp Gates when I arrived.  So, I was sent there following a day's orientation in squadron (Pond Barracks, Amberg).  Even more ironically, Pitman was my last duty station; however I was sent back to squadron a few days prior to going home.  So my "shortest" time was spent a Camp Pitman too.

I'm not sure when they reassigned border sectors, maybe it was when the switched from baseball caps to berets?  When I was there we ran the border from Hof to Waidhus (Hohnberg Castle area).  I was a "tanker" so most of my time on the border was spent in operations.  I did get out to the OP's on occasion because in the middle of my tour I was reassigned to headquarters platoon and did a stint as the XO's & CO's jeep driver, which got me out the border a lot and to Nurnberg several times, as well as Bamberg and Bindlach.  Beautiful country, but hard duty.  I got there 6 months after Kennedy was killed, and left a year before the Russian's invaded Czeckoslovkia so it was pretty tense (intense, probably more liker it) on the border at that time.

Hi Dave, yes, I am, I didn't want to intrude on your forum since I am not a Dragon. I noticed my grandfather's name was listed here, so I thought I'd reach out. His name is Lt. Francis L. Tooley, and I am trying to find out more about what he did in WW II. I have attached a newspaper blurb and his photograph, perhaps you can shed some light on the "Ghost Troopers"? I know Tooley was shot three times by the Nazis: ankle, thigh and upper arm. Thank you for any help you can give me. Whitney Youngs

I remember you Dave ! !   You were pretty crazy like the rest of us back then.

I sure enjoyed my time at the "Rock" and it was definately a growing experience.

The good times far out weighed any of the bad times....  It was sure great getting back to the "World".

For the twisted few of you out there like me who have lost anal retention over the closing of the 2d Cavalry's Reed Museum in 2006, I have some good news. Things are finally moving forward towards getting the "Reed" opened up again in Vilseck, Germany, after being in limbo for three years.

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
