"Hey, I was the one in the tank top. In 80' I was transferred to HQ, Nuremberg, Merrell Barracks. There was some rule for guard duty, during inspection if you were picked, then you would hang ready to accompany the Colonel. It was called being…"
"I wasn't there during 72-73', but we heard about it. It was when 2/2 ACR had some old drafty's still in and they didn't want to be there. Some had seen to much action in Vietnam and wanted out NOW! and did extreme things to get…"
"I'm the one with the tank top... Man I can't remember what platoon I was in, but our Sargent First-class wore Germany Army Tanker boots. I loved those things and wore the same my whole tour there. Some guys on my tanks was Gary Thompson,…"
"That's for sure. The CAV took me way outside my comfort zone and introduced me to many things, but most of all the brotherhood of experiencing it with the other cavalrymen. It really didn't make a difference what part of the country…"
"I live in Sanford and have been to "Soldiers Creek" many times for Speck fishing and didn't realize for a couple of years that the 2 Cav had fought in that very area. I live about a block from where Ft. Mellon was located and…"
"Molino's... It could have been. It was close enough, it was common for CAV to hang out there. I remember hearing Van Halen for the first time, songs "Eruption" that lead into "You Really Got Me" and my jaw…"
"Those boots the German is wearing are the same boots I wore in uniform. I remember buying them out of the back of some guys car, in the parking lot at Camp Hof for whiskey/cigarettes. The pair that I bought were to small, but I loved them so much I…"
"Hey Don, Sorry for the delayed response. I'm actually central Florida, Sanford, a couple of blocks from the St. Johns River. I'm about 30 mins. from Daytona Beach. Miami is about 5 hours from me. I'm sure you'll have a blast…"
"Just posting another memory:
When I first came to post in 1977, Bamberg, I was driving a Sheridan. Loved the speed of that thing. So months later we got the M60A1 RISE; brand new OD-Green! So our first task was to camouflage paint. So we were…"

What MOS or job description did you have?
Tank gunner/driver for the Sheridan / M60A1 RISE
What was your rank/title?
What years were you assigned to the 2nd Cavalry?
Tell us a little about your cav days.
Here are the memories, although random: Over 300 days in the field, Border guard, Graf, Reforger, Plaque above First Sargent s door, "I may not be God, BUT GOD AIN'T AIRBORNE", Sleep Deprivation Training, Headquarters in Nuremberg. Favorite march/run cadence "A Yellow Bird". The Witch's Tit at the Tri-Zone
Being there also included Camp Hof, Camp Cobourg and the Tri-zone (The Witches Tit) for border patrols. Interestingly, I now live where one of the original Dragoons, 2 Cav regiments was formed in Sanford, FL during the Seminole Indian Wars. I had no idea until I was fishing in "Soldiers Creek" where I was told and have since found documents where many of the battles were fought in the early 1800's. Who would have thunk... CAV
Tell us a little about you now.
