JASON, I had went on the group, Honorary Dragoons to see who were members, don't know if I ever was enrolled as such, had received a Border Certificate from my Squadron Commander. Sorry if I intruded. Just interested.
Thought you might find this of interest, and it gives you a chance to take out your 2d Dragoon glass and toast a couple possible ancestors (they were brothers).
HASTINGS, William; enlisted: August 4, 1847, Fort Wayne, by Lieut. Armstrong; born: Orangeville, New York; age: 23 yrs; occupation: blacksmith; grey eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5’10”; Company G, 2d Dragoons; discharged: July 17, 1848, Jefferson Barracks, expiration of service; rank: private; [a war man].
HASTINGS, Lorenzo; enlisted: August 12, 1847, Fort Wayne, by Lieut. Armstrong; born: Orangeville, New York; age: 18 yrs; occupation: blacksmith; grey eyes, light hair, ruddy complexion, 5’8”; 2d Dragoons; died October 20, 1847, Jefferson Barracks; rank: private; [a war man].
There are also numerous 2d Dragoon enlistments who were enlisted by Lieut. Hastings, who must have been a 2d Dragoon officer but is not listed on my rosters.
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
