I remember being called from the mess hall to the Colonel's office on my birthday. He asked me if I would serve temporarily as Chaplains assistant. Susan Boylan, the choir director for the protestant chapel services. After that the mess hall burned down when a deep fat fryer caught fire. I remember the MPs shutting down a 4th of July party in the street of the housing area. Artichoke on pizza! The sons bringing their German fathers lunch and beer while they were working on base. The time a soldier went berserk and drove an SP155 over several other tracks. Driving the protestant chaplain to both border camps Christmas morning. No one wanted a service. Depressing. The guys at the 2/57 missile base telling me their life exectancy was 3 minutes if the Ruskies came over the border.
Tell us a little about you now.
I run the photo labs for the University of Southern California and am a photographer
Toujours Pret John,
Welcome to the DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of updated features, lots of sub-groups,(ie, Officers Club, F-Trp., Amberg, Medics, etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
Make sure you stop by and read the latest Tacoma Dave ‘Triva Quiz’, learn some 2nd Cav history, and you can even win a kool prize.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or any of the 5 admins listed at the top of the page, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures (pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about DragoonBase.
Thanks again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country.
