"Hard to tell but it should be. I was wrecker operator until mid 1963. We then got a recovery guy who took over the wrecker and I moved to clerk and tech supply. I ordered all the parts and handled all the work orders."

"Don't remember that, but if it went missing it was probably Blankenship. He had the stickiest fingers of all on Bindlach. He had the bad habit of taking tool boxes left in vehicles brought to us."

"The above picture is of my Platoon Sgt Blankenship holding the tanker bar. It would be our platoon changing the trannie. I would have been the wrecker operator.  "

Nurnberg/Bindlach

635.10

I was in Bindlach when the squadron changed to the M-60. The ordnance platoon had to go the railhead in Bayreuth to process them and then drive them to Bindlach. This was after a platoon party and everybody was hung over. This had to be late 62-early 63. I was transfered from Bindlach mid 63 to the 7th corp CMMI/IG team. I did return with the team and did the IG inspections 63-66.

I had Hq 3 painted, had doors put on, slip covers, a map box and a reading light put on. Can't remember how I repaid the guys but I did not smoke so I'm sure there were several bottles of hooth and cartoons of butts. The Ord guys were great!!!

The photo was taken Nov 2008 at the old motor pool. That is a Chevy DelRay. Never heard of one before.

Welcome back to the Cav, Richard. I was in Bindlach 1954-55 with my dad, and again 1974-75 on my own. Been back twice since then to visit. I was just in Nurnberg and Bindlach this July. Not much of either barracks you would remember. Most of the original buildings are gone.

Christensen Barracks near Bindlach is its own berg now...Bindlachberg. It's a big housing area and the HQ building, one of the few originals left, is a retirement home.

The motor pool is still there. It is businesses now, one of them restoring classic American cars.

We've got several groups going here on Dragoon Base for you to check out. You definitely qualify for the Old Timer's group.
