This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.

1LT Johnson was C Trp. XO under CPT Stephen Hawkins and before that CPT Hawkins was XO under CPT Lute (now LTG(Ret.) Lute). Last time I seen Hawkins he was a MAJOR working in Ft. Knox Armor Development Branch writing Armored Cavalry Field Manuals.
I have a picture of you, David Roe, Matthew Camacho, the LT(not Brigham) I think his name was Johnson, and I taken up on the Grenze, over looking the Cheb training area, It was the last check point of my last patrol, before pcs'ng back to to conus.
