"That was the best barracks ever! It was sad when we had to move to the rock. No more attic parties and downtown 10 min after getting off. When you walked along the side, you had best be looking for falling objects! Most of the windows had beer…"
"My brother broke all the windows out of the motor pool there with his slingshot one Sunday morning in 1954 and got a ride home in an MP jeep. My dad, the battalion motor officer at the time, had to replace all the windows.
We lived on…"

Long, fun days topped off with great soldiers, German beer and food.
Tell us a little about you now.
Retired as LTC. Served several tours at Fort Bragg; Master Parachutist; Commanded 2 artillery batteries in the 82d Division Artillery; Bn S3 in Gulf War; grad school at Syracuse; stationed overseas in Germany, Italy, Thailand, Saudi Arabia (crap hole!), and Iraq (crappier hole!)
Where is Shawn Tierney now? I spoke with Bill Eicher a couple of years ago. If I never said it before, I will now. Thanks to you and Mary for all the meals for us bachelors and letting me crash at your place before I DEROSed. You guys were the BEST! You need to come to KC so I can repay you a little. I think Dennis P. Malcor is a retired MG and lives near Ft. Knox now.
Good to hear from you and Mary. Marsha and I are in the Kansas City area. Been here since I left the Army in 1982. We are both retired since 2007. Doing well. Both of us retired from Hallmark Cards, but I worked another 5 years for UMB Bank in HR. After Bindlach I went to Armor Officer Advanced course, flight school, Cobra transition, 1/4 Cav at Ft. Riley, 4/12 Cav at Ft. Polk, left the army from there. What did you do with your VW Thing?
Robet - rermember you fomback in the good ole days. I arrived in Bayreuth in the spring of 74 and streched out that assignment until the Sprig of 83. Returned then to CONUS for 15 months and then back to Bayreuth until Dec 96 whenI returned to Minnesota. I went back every ear ortwo until 09 when my my llungs gave out on me and put a halt to my flying and overseas travel.
Also noted you remember "Top" Miller. Great guy! Still lives near Bayreuth.
When my dad was in the 2d Cav, 1953-55, we lived in Bayreuth right across the street from the officer's club on Parsifalstrasse, just across the park from the Wagner Opera Haus. Spent my first two birthdays there. Dad was the 1st Battalion (battalions instead of squadrons then) motors officer.
My brother shot out all the windows in the motor pool at sub-post in Bayreuth with his slingshot when he was six years old. Good times!
Yeah, we actually got in a little trouble over that photo. The tank sits next to the main gate at Rose Barracks in Vilseck. Security guy (German) got pissed because we were taking photos near the front gate and almost took our cameras.
Welcome to Dragoon Base, Robert. I left the Rock when you got there. I left in February '75...was in C Troop.
Visited the Rock in 2008 and 2011. Not many of the original buildings left. We were the first barracks inside the gate when I was there, but heard How Battery got new barracks next to ours later after I left.
