SGM(R) Anderson,

Greetings, I'm Dave McDermaid and I served with K Troop, 3/2 ACR from 1990-1992 (I served as the unit supply clerk/armorer with CPL Shay and SPC Perry).

I was curious to know whether or not you may be willing to participate in a project that I am considering: writing a book on the 3/2 ACR Desert Shield/Storm story?

I'm in the initial stages of the idea however, I decided that I should see whether or not unit leaders would be willing to share their experiences with me towards completing the overall story.

I appreciate your time and consideration in the matter, many thanks in advance of your reply.

Very Respectfully,

Dave McDermaid

Went to PA School from Knox in 1993 where I was an Instructor at Cav Weapons (with CPT Haszard, Rader, Mullinex, Happell). PA school opened up to all MOS's when they became commissioned instead of WO's. I am actually the first "non-medic" to complete the course successfully. I consider my 15 years as a scout to have been a paid hobby! SI will stay in touch as my wife and travel a bunch and will get to the northwest at some point. Let me know if you head this way.

Hey 1SG ! Great to see you doing well. Miss all our conversations and conflicts. We were a damned good bunch and much of the credit goes to you. Thanks again for being a big part of the best unit that I ever was part of.

Good to hear life is well, I got out in 97 after I left Korea. I applied at every police depart around my home town and finally got hired in 99. I've been a deputy sheriff, K9 officer, CRT (swat) member and currently as a narcotic detective with a drug task force. I kept up with Allen (Thomas Allen III) until 97 just before i got out however now i cant locate him. I stopped looking in 2001(i hate to say that but live got busy) The last time i had contact, they were still trying to save his arm but he eluded to me he may lose it. Have you heard from anyone else in SSG Ford's Plt.

Hey Andy.
How you doing. It's been awhile. Last time we soldiered together was back in 92 in Amberg, just before the Regiment went back to the states.

Thank you for the message: I appreciate it.

I'm still on active duty, now a CW2 Property Book Warrant stationed out here in the middle of nowhere, aka Ft Huachuca, AZ.

I really draw on my experiences from my first unit and the example of what "right looks like" provided by my first 1SG. I have fond memories of standing in your office as a Private at parade rest, trying to pay attention to what you had to say, all the while trying to still breath through the small clouds of your cigarette smoke (my God, smoking in a govt building no less!).

I caught-up with Andy Shay some 5-6 years ago when I was stationed at Ft Bragg. He mentioned that you were in the chimney sweep business out west.

SGT Oliver Jackson (retired Ft Huachuca Garrison 1SG some years ago) is also out here in Arizona. Otherwise I have only caught-up with SPC Troy Apodaca (about the same time I was in touch with Andy Shay) and I ran into COL William Prior (the old K Troop XO) on a TDY trip to Ft Polk back in 2004/05 when he was the 1st Squadron Commander for the Regiment.

Really glad to have heard from you.

All the best.

I do not know your friend, but I am sure some of the guys I know, know him. I have heard his name though. The JMSC was built out at Camp Aachen, on the way to the Air Field. You may recall that we did a big exercise out in that area back in November 1994 (I was in Hohenfels, 90-95),
