Thanks Joe. Actually, I'm just getting over the flu. At least I think I'm getting over it. Sure feel a lot better than I did the past several days.
I managed to convince them (FB) that they screwed up and I got an apology and my account back, which included replacing all my comments from all the years I have been on there. Had to go through an extensive security screening first though, which I wasn't too happy about. At least I got all my stuff back.
Hope things are going well with you, brother. Toujours Pret!
I always told everyone I would never make it to 21. The C-15 explosion was two days before my 21st birthday. Had numerous brushes with death before and after, yet here I am. Been 21 three times now and working on a fourth. Probably not going to make it, but it has been a thrill trying.
A get together next September sounds great. I'm about 35 minutes south of the airport. I don't do Seattle unless I am flying in or out, or the occasional Seahawk game. Wife came home with 4 free front row tickets for last weeks game with the Rams on the 23 yard line right at the end of the Seahawk bench next to the replay booth.
Nope, no danger pay, Joe. In fact, there were a lot of times I didn't get basic pay.
I tried to join the VFW and got turned down flat. No Cold War vets allowed. A good friend of my brother's was the president of the local chapter too. He hooked me up with their sergeant-at-arms who said he could "back door" my membership and I told him no thanks. I've talked to a couple guys here at Dragoon Base who got into their local chapters though through their border duty. Just can't remember who it was.
Joe,I have been on the Base ever sense my Buddy Robb Russell created it. He and I were the first. Dave has taken the reigns and has done a helluva job. I am just an admin. but most of the names on the Admin. are in Fiddlers Green. Those were my friends. How about givin' a little time to get used to the Base before gettin' snotty. So I'll try again. Glsd to hsve you here. You will find friends. Doesn't mean you have to like me. I'm too old to care. I am and will,ALWAYS SIR!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Joe ! Machinist & toolmakers trade is a dying breed. I learned mine in High school, went to an all boys Vocational & Technical High school, the girls Vo Tech was three blocks up the road. Had 4 yrs. of Machine shop & Tooling, 6 months of drafting & metalurgy. When I left the military in 1960 got a job driving a truck for a local machine shop that manufactured Mold Bases, the frames that hold the dies in plastic and die cast molding machines, 6 month later I was in the shop running a radial drill. Ran all the manual machines, then A pratt & whitney N/C drill. about times the N/C was oudated by computers I got a job running the tool crib, sharpening all tools, ordering tools when needed, filing out purchase reqs for parts for jobs. Then got into the wiring of the top haf of the molds for the necessery parts to heat the tops so the molten plastic or die cast metal would flow into the cavities. Made all the altered parts needed. And before I retired I was setting the hight and depth of the tools and loading the buckets on the computerized milling machines, at that time all the operators were button pushers. Retired in 02 with 37 years with the Company. Sure enjoyed my work and was pretty good at what I did. Still have my tool boxes and some tools in my shed out back. Now I fish, golf, am active at church and volunteer with the forestry dept.as a volunteer lookout host in a tower about 40 miles from where I live. Gonna be 77 in March, pretty healthy, and don't look my age. I've been blessed with many grandkids that I enjoy.
It's real easy to leave any of the groups. Just log into Dragoon Base and go to the group you want to leave. Above the little photos of the group members it will say "Leave Group". Click on that and you are out of the group.
You can also stay in a group and just turn off mail notifications so you no longer receive mailings from that group.
Well Joe, that one particular group, "Politics, Religion, Fistfights, and Tomfoolery", was created just for the purpose of ranting about things we didn't want on the other groups. Gives a guy a place to get things off his chest, which we all need to do now and then.
Glad to hear all is well over in New (Neu) Ulm. Stay busy and stay young while you still can. I've been down more than up the last year with back problems, and I don't see it getting any better any time soon. Still think I can do the things I did when I was a kid, but the body keeps reminding me in an unforgiving way that those days are over.
