Butch, I will have my daughter Sandra scan some of the photo's from C Troop pictures from one of many secure storage safes (shoe boxes) and I have alot of them from 44-45 years in or with the Army. My intention was one day to put them in albums, but I've about gave up on that idea. Take care and drop a line whenever you don't have the Harley Fever. Top
Butch, We are still kicking. I drove by the Rock two weeks ago on my way to visit our oldest girl and her family. The old troopers would just shake there heads, there is a traffic circle between the old Hwy 22 and the NATO road to the Autobahn. Next time I will go on post or better yet, whats left of it. Stay in touch, anything new on Wrong Way Langlo or his whereabouts? Top
Butch.Hello.You might remember me from C-Trp yrs.73-77,2nd platoon.I was Sgt."Reamo" Reames.I remember your jump boots,stiff-backed stance.and thirst for Olympia beer.Sounds like you are enjoying life.If you hear anything about "Skip" I'd be interested. Catch ya later. Rick
Butch,
Just wanted to give you a holler. It is good to connect after so many years. I remember you while in C Trp. Good to know you are still around. I was in HQ PLT with SSG Kissel and spent a lot of time at Camp Gates.
Butch, it's hard to forget people like you, cowboy, Cain, Householder, and many others. I think it was your tank that the drivers compartment heater caught fire. Can't seem to remember if the ammo went up or not. If you receive something like this twice the other one also made it. Best regaurds. LLK
Glad to hear you have a family! I am still married to Cathy - we just celebrated our 29th anniversary. We have a son, David who is 25, in Chicago and a daughter, Erin who in 23, in Columbus Ohio. No grandkids yet. My email is szyddj@gmail.com - send me yours and I'll send you pics of the family. I have not found any E Trp photos - but I did find some from H Co that I'll post.
I've only run into a few guys from 3d Platoon E Trp over the years - including Sylvester - who was my very last driver in E Trp - and who was a platoon sergeant in 2/2 when I was squadron commander and a 1SG at Fort Knox when I was there later.
Ric/Butch/Top - I always wondered what happened to you and whether or not you got out and went off to be a mercenary. Glad to see you are still kicking. No Slack!
All these many years.... damn but yer right on that, Butch. Oh, I had big plans for life, but life does have ideas of its own. I wound up with the Department of Energy after I left the Army and worked in things that I never imagined; built reactors and reactor fuel processing facilities, escorted weapons components, managed logistics and programs. I even worked on the peoject that manufactured the armor package for the M-1 (which incidentally was set up inside the abandoned hanger for the nuclear aircraft project). Anyway, I retired last year and now work as a consultant on a DOE project. You made it quite a ways from Lapwai homeboy.
BTW Cassidy, I thought that you couldn't wait to get out of the cav. What's your story?
Of course I remember you. Your mug and the whole troop is still on my wall. I saw Cowboy Wilkens in 91 or so when I was the CINCUSAREUR's XO. He had subdued a trooper gone wild and was awarded a Soldier's Medal. I hear from Top Miller once in a while. He retired near the Rock and worked at Graf. He's now retired from that too. Please go to www.dragoons.org and join our association. We do a lot of good work for our current troopers and their families. We just put up a magnificant memorial and we are in the process of awarding some college scholarships. I check this email address infrequently but will always respond eventually.
Butch, Thanks for last trace on Langlo, Saw Jim Mitchell message below while anwsering this; Gainey was working in Germesheim as DAC and he used drop by regularly up until the time I retired in Graf in 2005. The Community was downsizing or closing (don,t remember which) and he was looking for another home. I saw Wilkins once in the early 90's in Bayreuth, we both in a rush and only exchanged hello's. Olivarez made CSM, divorced his wife and married a young SP4, last saw about 8 years ago while he was visiting friends here in Bayreuth. Top

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
