Hi Tom, Good hearing form you bro. I feel bad I dont keep in better touch. Life gets to be so crazy. Then you throw in the holidays for good measure. I guess you saw where I mentioned Lonnie in the group the other day. Ther isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of him. If you remember I have that tattoo on my arm in memory of him. He was agood friend and all around good guy. Like most of us he got caught up the the lifestyle. But any way hope all is well with you and yours. I cant wait for this winter to get over with. Been kinda brutal past few weeks. Al Gore probally laying on a beach some where complianing about the heat. Take care bro and keep it 'tween the ditches.
Toujours Pret,

Hey Tony I dont think I have told anybody about some of the things we did down at the Fontaine.I have a 21 year old son that just enlisted and just got to camp Speicher in Iraq he is a 13 bravo Artillery. He does not know of much what we did back in the old days. It is a new army today that's for sure.I think I remember the incident with the jeep on the border. I left Amberg in may of 80 went to ft. Lewis served with 2/77 armor bn. got there just in time to help clean up all the ash from mt.st. helens but I was a sgt by then it was much better to be in charge of the detail than be on the detail.I went to the board to make E-5 before I left Amberg in front of the sgt. major and all the first sargent's I will never forget that day

The nights at the Fontaine was times I will never forget. I have never told my 23 yr old son some of the things I did while I was there. The guy that died while I was at CAT was Lonnie Veazy. He worked in S-4. Like alot of us he had a habit of mixing drugs with alcohol. There was another guy that died that I recall. His name was Sgt. Blackwood. I am pretty sure that was his name. He died in a jeep accident on the border. I'm not sure what troop he was in. Some of the guys I knew in HHT was Stan Bullard and Ed Lawski. I remember partying in Mco with some guys at times but dont recall any names. I do remember the sgt. that got killed during REFORGER. Didnt recall the name but remmeber the incident.

Thanks for the welcome Tony. I was Sgt Mckenzie's gunner during c.a.t. 79 that was a good time being involved with that operation.I was reading some of your earlier comments you were talking about the fontaine and the silver bar Those were some wild nights.I was one of the guys that brought our stereo equipment and albums down there and played music the last song of the night was always freebird do you rememer that? man We sure used to rock that place, good times..You said you lost a brother at pond barracks I knew a few guys in HHT mostly truck drivers A lot of the names I can not remember. Amberg has been along time ago now. What was his name? There were a few guys that lost ther lives during my time there. Do you remember when Sfc.Morton from Mco.? his tank rolled over on him during reforger79? I was in the tank behind his He was a great senior nco May he rest in peace. Well Tony I am new to this site the more I read here the more memories I recall I am sure we will talk again.I will add you as a friend.Toujours Pret

Toujours Pret Tony,
Welcome to the new DragoonBase, the new Base has plenty of newer features, lots of sub-groups,(ie,F-Trp,Amberg,Medics,etc.) and links for 2nd Cav News and History.
Robb Russell has posted some tips for navigating the site (ie,photos, links, ect) in the Forum.
If you need any help, you can contact Robb, or myself, or just yell out, another member may be able to help you.
And our only wish, ‘Keep it clean’, use our Real names/with Pictures(pix from back in the day, work best for searching for Brothers, but any picture will do).
And that you please tell all your friends about the new DragoonBase.

Thanks Again for joining Dragoon Base, and for your service to our great country,
Jesse Kelley
