CWO Joe Brown was a godsend for the 84th! He helped a lot of folks on the Rock with their maintenance issues. Low density equipment was a nightmare for us. AVLBs, CEVs, Cat Dozers, John Deere Backhoes, chainsaws! Both Joe and I lived on the Rock and commuted every day to our Kaserne in Bayreuth.

Hey Mark, It is great to connect with another writer!  I just got on this thing about a week ago, so I would ask for leniency in your judgment "not too many takers yet."  Most definitely am looking forward to chatting with you.  Please do check out my twitter, J. John Nordstrom (my great grandmother's name mother's side all Swedes there all Polarks father's side).  I got a novel making Queenbee the major antagonist.  She is Nurse Ratched with a law degree, does this sound familiar in the current political circus?   What kinds of things have you been writing about?  I am familiar with most of the war movies made to date, I especially am into the Nam stuff.  If you have anything on the military hospitals in Austria, great, if not, no sweat.   Looking forward to hearing back in any case.    I have a Linked In under J. John Nordstrom (Joe Jablonski) that might be of interest to you.  Joe

No big C patch or decal. I only recall the 2, half white or silver and half red. Dad was a Mustang and earned his bars the old fashioned way, in Africa in a tank.

I did a search for Scott Stupek and there are none in the US. There is a Scott Stupak who lives in North Carolina. You can find him on Facebook. He went to college at UNCW. I hope that helps.

Scott might be a second cousin, but I'm unaware of him. If you want to find him try Spokeo.com. I've had luck finding people there.

Mark, I can remember when made the change from the woodland camo. pattern to the digital pattern or the squares I don't know if we called it digital back then I can not remember, but I never heard the term Dueler dots back then, but I do remember one of my NCO's telling me it was not a new idea I was told that is was the Germans that came up with that pattern back in WWII I can not confirm that but that is what I was told. I do remember cutting the patterns and repainting all the tanks and that must of been around spring of 1979 you can see a bit of it in this photo. Not the best picture sorry. Competing Tanks

Mark, I actually helped to paint the first digital paint job on a CEV, we used the CEVs because we were they only Tank frames at the Regimental HQs.  We then did local area observation tests against the then current camo paint jobs.  We had to hand paint the tank, not a lot of fun but the results were pretty good.  So yes, the Dueler came up with that concept back in the late 70s.

If you are still looking for 1SG Hembree I found this sight that lists his cell number (provided by his first ex -wife)

http://boards.ancestry.com/thread.aspx?mv=flat&m=650&p=topics.Military.vietnwar.vietnam-20-war

it from 2008 so may be old number but a starting point of getting something current.
