One can never say enough about those that make the ultimate sacrifice. My heart goes out to their families.Bless them all.

Got this e-mail yesterday from a Patriot Guard Rider thanking the Regiment...

My Friends,

I would like to take an opportunity to tell you just how grateful I am for your participation in the effort I have undertaken to remember the fallen members of the 2nd Stryker Cavalry during this deployment to Afghanistan.
Without your personal involvement, initiative, and interest, my efforts would have been just a thought. You were the action part of the equation.

To date you and I were given the opportunity to provide Patriot Guard Riders Flags to the famiies of 9 troopers. With the help of PGR members from all across the country we were able to secure 7 flags. Those flags were signed by the riders that tended to the troopers on thier final journey home. Upon these flags they placed messages of condolence and support for the troopers that continue on in spite of the loss, and to the families that grieve that loss.

I personally have been moved by the messages of support for these efforts. But truly it was you that never hesitated to go beyond the expectation, rise to every call, and soar proudly but ever so humbly to prove that the American Soldier is more than the greatest warrior on earth, these men are our brothers, our sons, our husbands, and the fathers of our future as a people and a nation. I am proud and honored beyond words and belief.

For you members of 2SCR that are recieving this, thank you for your service. I am forever in your debt. For the Patriot Guard RIders, you have set the bar high and I will continue to measure my own actions as a member by your example.

Here is a (hopefully) final status report:

1 LT Bennedsen;  Flag and Memorial Video complete.  This flag is still downrange awaiting the return of the unit.  I am planning to present this one personally.

SPC Justin Shoecraft;  Mission completed.

PFC Cody Board;  Awaiting photography to complete family video which will be presented, with the flag, to the family in Europe upon the units return.

SPC Steven DuPont;  Flag is awaiting shipment to be presented in Louisiana.

SGT Ayube;  Flag is awaiting shipment to be presented in Massachusetts.

SGT Robinson;  Flag and images in transit downrange. Awaiting return for shipment and presentation in Arkansas.

SPC Mixon;  Video in progress, flag tentative.  Service at Arlington prohibits PGR flags.

In addition the Patriot Guard escorted the following troopers at the request of their families. There were no arrangements made for flags or memorial images.

SGT Nettleton, Kansas

SPC Prentler, Michigan

PFC Javier, California

Robert Underwood

I can only pray that our merciful and loving God gives them the rest they so richly deserve, and peace and comfort for their families.

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
