My jeep (the Captain's jeep). I put over 21,000 miles on that thing in just a year's time driving between Amberg and the border camps and the training grounds and the TAC site and all over the "war plan" site (which was nowhere near Amberg ... the "war plan" at the time had us taking quite a long road march to the north) with several odd runs to Nurnburg and Bamberg and Coburg as well. The First Sergeant's jeep is on the left. The chow hall is in the background.

Hardly know where to begin but I flew for LTC Konitzer from May 82 - May 83. Lots of adventures with the best troopers I ever served with. I remember shooting an approach to the parade ground the day one of the GSR teams passed out from methane gas along the grenz when the snow started melting in the spring of 83. Turns out they set up in a field that had been fertilized with manure. Created quite a panic and we scrambled from Bayreuth and cut short Capstone to get back to Hotel Sierra.
Best unit I ever served with. Looking for any of the S2 staff from 1989-1991. Send me a note.
Especially downtown Amberg .
Great story Dan, I do have good memories of Christmas in Germany No place quite like it.
A Scouts Christmas Story....
My first Christmas stationed in Amberg Germany, I was on the Detail that chopped our Post Christmas Tree down. I also chopped a small tree down while we were in the woods. Then when no one was looking I stuffed it deep into the big tree before it was placed in the 5-ton on top of all the regular tree that we cut down to be sold by the PX. Upon our return to post we pulled up in front of Sqd. HQ's and off loaded the big tree then off to the PX to unload the others. I lagged behind and grab my tree and dropped it off at Rm. 312 HHT on my way to the PX to help the others unload the 5-ton. :D
Merry Christmas and Toujours Pret! :)
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
