We had fun going downtown to Amberg and trying different beers and always chasing the local ladies!
Tell us a little about you now.
I'm 50 years old now but fondly remember the time I served the Cavalry. When I was initially stationed there, I had no idea of the history of the 3/2 ACR. I'm very proud of the unit and what they have done since I left there.
Name a few buddies you served with that you would like to find.

Dan,it is still a great little town, last time my wife and I went back was 2002.If I remember the chicken house was on the Kaiser Ring near the arch with the two steeples.Back in my time we had two near by bakery places that we went to ,great hot bread and the cakes with wipped cream and the fruit on top was outstanding. We can't wait ti go back maybe next year/

Hows this for old times/today I got a phone call from my old CSM from 69-71,I drove him when we went to Graf for TCQC in early 1971.

dan, welcome to the site.I was at Pond Barracks 69-71,a little before your time. The last time my wife and I went back was 2002 and I posted some bier coasters on my page with my pictures. It was a neat little town. Now Pond Barracks is gone and it is a big apartment complex.Check out my pictures.I have a few of the changes.I was with Redeye in Headquarters troop.Even made SGT.in 20 months. My wife and I had a great time when we were stationed there, worked with a great group of guys, and even keep in touch with them now.

Can't remember if it was here or on the old Dragoon Base site, but somebody had quite the collection of coasters posted in a photo album.

In base camp, ( i call it Pond Barracks) we used to roam around as often as we could. The main objective was to collect the little cardboard coasters that the brau-hauses had. And we were FANATICAL about this! Every single teeny brewery, every Gasthaus we came across, we went in and sampled each beer they had to offer. And if there was a coaster, we took em!

They don't use the phonetic alphabet for troop names anymore. Charlie Troop is now Comanche, India Troop is now Iron. We're obsolete, bro!

I think the picnic table is a good idea. What better way to pay homage to the troopers than to spill beir and bbq sauce on it with good friends and family?

2d DRAGOONS

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
