This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.

John, yes, I was able to track him down and have talked with him on the phone a few times. He was not happy with his time in the army and just hung around on base after I left in 64.
Welcome John, I also took the radar out at night, got where I could tell the time of night by observing the stars. Had to something with your time, the so called radar was a crude device, really was a sonar. Boring duty, much preferred the patrols. May have run across you on post or downtown. B-Troop 62-65.
I really enjoyed reading your groups RECON sitreps from the era - they were still in the vault in the war room in 86.
Welcome Back John, I was there at the same time, D Troop Maint, I drove the M-113 then took over the M-88. The last name kind of rings a bell. :)
