My father PFC Garry Smith passed away while on duty in the armory on July 2,1974 at the time my mother was 7 mths pregnant with me.
Tell us a little about you now.
I am reaching out to ANY ONE who may have served with my father and would be willing to share a story wither it be good or bad (nobodys perfect and I hear we share a little rebelious side) please even if was just in passing and you seen what kind of soldier he was I would love to hear it.

For all the men who served with my father and were kind enough to respond and share Thank you you have blessed and filled a part of my heart that has always felt empty. My dad died doing what he loved he had so much pride in the history of the HOW batt.The army was not his job it was his life he was not perfect ( he was a 20 yr old in a foreign land in the 70s enough said) but now it has been confirmed that he was a man worthy of respect. I didn't know about anyone being killed during that exercise. C Troop lost two men injured, one severely, on the 25th when Sheridan C-15 caught fire and exploded.

Hi Rebecca. It is such a pleasure to meet you after all these years. I do remember your father Garry Smith. He was one of my very good friends. I was near the arms room out in the field in Germany when the tragic accident happened. His death affected us all at HWB. I am glad you are well. God bless you.
