hi bob my name is bob hines I was in B troop 2nd platoon scout.
Hey Bob,
I noticed you were a "shooter". Did you ever compete in any matches in Pegnitz, south of Bayreuth?
That was dad's last competition, when he fired with the polizei there and won the match in 1954. I still have the plaque he was awarded.
Most of his shooting was done in the late 1920's through 1948. He was awarded the Distinguished Marksman's Badge in 1935 and won the Camp Perry Rifle Matches in the National Guard division. He also won the National Guard Championship at Ft Lewis that year. He was buried with the DMB in 1983. It was one of his proudest possessions.
Most of his medals were stolen many years ago, but you can see some of the remaining ones on my website.
This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
