MSG Henry, good to hear from you. I remember quite well when Troop maintenance was absorbed into Squadron Maintenance. I hear from Arbogast every once in awhile. I saw him in 2001 when I was stationed on Vicenza and we were in Graf training. I remember that tool who did the header off the car quite well. In fact I remind him quite often while I'm shaving what a dumb ass he was!!
No, I left 2ACR in 89. I deployed to the gulf war with 2AD (FWD) out of Garlstedt in northern Germany. My unit deactivated in 1992, and I tried to get back to Amberg. I was bummed to hear that they (2ACR) was deactivating then too.
I think I do remember...If it was the incident I'm thinking of, it was during the opening ceremony and keg tapping...LTC Wallace and the whole command group was there to witness the fight.
There was a girl in the TMP office I used to flirt with. Forgot her name though, but I think she was still there when I left in 89.
Ernie Roth, myself and another trooper were selected to do a "dog and pony" foot patrol on the border for an Army Times write up. The snow was so deep, we had to wear snowshoes and still sank every few steps. Roth kept us motivate all the way up the mountain though.
You listed Ernie Roth. He is still in Germany (Retired and working in Graf I think). He was a CPL when I first met him in 86 (I was a PVT) and then years later I succeeded him as 1SG of the BRT in Vilseck. Great guy he is.

No. I am not fully retired yet but I went to half time...about 20 hours of patient care a week. I think that keeping busy is the best of both worlds. Those few half days off during the week makes it feel like I'm on vacation everyday. Plus the income doesn't hurt! Hope you find that happy medium.
Stay well.
Steve
Jimmy, me again. Did you ever find SGM Tommy Nestor ? We both live in Arizona. I live So. of Phoenix, he lives No. of Phoenix, on the way to Prescott. reach him in " Amberg, 3rd Sqdn. " Toujours Pret.
Hi Jimmy, yep, I was in HHT. I handled the records for HQ Trp. , I Trpl, and How. Btry. You were in K Trp. so Jack Tarvin handled your records. Jack had the records for K Trp. , L Trp., and M Co. ... Don't remember the fellow in question though. Were you on Post when the SP 155 blew up in the vehicle park ? That was so COOL. Must have been in 68 because my wife wasn't pregnant yet. Oh, so long ago.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMIE
Wishing you many more, from all of us at DragoonBase!!!

Hey Jimmie, I see you refering to LT Topper, I remember a LT Topping That left me sitting on top or a mountian in a raging blizzard with a broke down jeep. I think that was in Wildflicken. The last time I saw ISG Folger He was a ISG in one of the Troops of the 2/17th Cav of the 101st ABN in Nam. One of the finest ISG's I ever had. I tried to emulate him when I had my own company

I remember Topper, I ran into him at Fort Knox in later years. I believe I remember Krebs, I believe we actually lived in the same APT building for a while. I was Holder's driver for a while when I first came to Amberg as a PVT. DO you remember Mike Allen? A big tall lanky guy from Ohio or Ky maybe, he came to us from NAM as a young SSG I believe but a really great guy. I went back for another tour in 1985 and retired from 3d squadron. Still same cav in the 80's, great soldiers, great leaders and the same mission, I was so happy to go back and retire from my home unit. Take care Steve and congratulations on all your great accomplishments and thanks for your service Jimmy
Jimmie;
Wow, other than Loren Krebs from I Troop, you are the only one that served from 68-69 that has responded. I remember some of the names you mentioned, especially 1SGT Folger and Lt Holder. Lt Holder left when his father was KIA in Nam. 1LT Topper then took over K Troop. I left Amberg in May '69 and thanks to the GI bill, went to medical school and have been in private practice in Nebraska for the last 32 years. Will probably retire next year. I had no idea that Lt Holder became a MGen! I remember that he was the best of all the 1LT that I served. 1stSGT Folger retired to Minnesota last I heard. Hope your life has been good and thanks for your service. I remember you being one of the good guys. Lets keep in touch

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.
