Connecting the Troopers of Today with the Veterans of Yesterday.
I was in Bindlach when the squadron changed to the M-60. The ordnance platoon had to go the railhead in Bayreuth to process them and then drive them to Bindlach. This was after a platoon party and everybody was hung over. This had to be late 62-early 63. I was transfered from Bindlach mid 63 to the 7th corp CMMI/IG team. I did return with the team and did the IG inspections 63-66.

This was the third design of the 2d Cavalry DUI, worn from 1924-1931. The sharp points on the ends of the bottom scroll again called for a redesign.

Richard, I was stationed in Merrill from 1961-63. I drove an M113 for a year assigned to the S-3 section. I then drove for the S-3. I had friends in the 53 ord. They did me some solids. I had Hq 3 painted, had doors put on, slip covers, a map box and a reading light put on. Can't remember how I repaid the guys but I did not smoke so I'm sure there were several bottles of hooth and cartoons of butts. The Ord guys were great!!!

Welcome back to the Cav, Richard. I was in Bindlach 1954-55 with my dad, and again 1974-75 on my own. Been back twice since then to visit. I was just in Nurnberg and Bindlach this July. Not much of either barracks you would remember. Most of the original buildings are gone.
Christensen Barracks near Bindlach is its own berg now...Bindlachberg. It's a big housing area and the HQ building, one of the few originals left, is a retirement home.
The motor pool is still there. It is businesses now, one of them restoring classic American cars.
